Suspicion about a foreign-nationality man's infection with "New SARS" proves a false alarm

The MTR Corporation said in the early hours of yesterday morning it was informed by the Department of Health's Port Health Office at West Kowloon terminus at about 7:58 p.m. on Sunday (Jan 13) that a 20-year-old man of foreign nationality arriving at the West Kowloon terminus at around Sunday 6:18 pm on the G6537 high-speed train from Guangzhou South station was found to have a fever and suspected symptoms of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) when passing through immigration. The man and his companion were later taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination. MTR Corporation said it would stay in touch with the Centre for Health Protection.

Yesterday afternoon, the Department of Health's Centre for Health Protection announced that the man had initially tested negative against the MERS virus.
