Lantau Tomorrow Vision to offer sea-view public housing
The Lantau Tomorrow Vision housing plan is expected to accommodate a first batch of occupants in 2032 the soonest. According to Secretary for Development Michael Wong Wai-lun, by then about 200 hectares of land will be reclaimed at the most, equivalent to the Tung Chung New Town Extension in area. There will be roads linking to Hong Kong Island, and a rail link can hopefully be built three to five years after the first batch of residents move in. Seventy per cent of the housing units built on the artificial island will be public housing which, in addition to Public Rental Housing (PRH), also includes Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) and Starter Homes Scheme. There's a great chance for [many of] these housing units to enjoy a sea view.
The Legislative Council's (Legco) Panel on Development will meet tomorrow to discuss the building of artificial islands in the central waters under the Lantau Tomorrow Vision plan and studies related to the project. In a TV interview yesterday, Secretary for Development Michael Wong Wai-lun said the artificial islands would be built by land reclamation in stages. Such arrangement might cause inconvenience to the first batch of occupants, which however was unlikely to affect potential occupants' desire to move in.

Smart underground car park to provide 200 parking spaces
There is a critical shortage of parking spaces in Hong Kong. The Transport Department plans to ease the predicament by introducing smart underground car parks. The first of such car parks will be located at the injunction between Yen Chow Street and Tung Chau Street in Sham Shui Po, which is expected to provide 200 parking spaces. This car park is under the ground, which, with the "circular shaft elevating" design, is fully automatic and controlled by a computer. The advantage lies in that the principle of operation is simple and it is relatively quick to park and retrieve a car. As such it is suitable for a small place. The plan will be presented to Sham Shui Po District Council for consideration next Tuesday. A specialist familiar with transportation issues points out that building a car park under the ground is more expensive than otherwise. Due to land shortage, however, Hong Kong has no choice but to opt for it.

Measles vaccine hardly available in market
The outbreak of measles at Hong Kong's airport has prompted concerns whether the epidemic would spread. Employers of foreign domestic helpers and those who are about to make outbound trips have been rushing one after another to private clinics to get measles vaccine jabs these days. Privately practising doctors say the number of people wanting to get a measles vaccine jab has increased by about 10 per cent in recent days. But Ta Kung Pao reporters find out that measles vaccine is hardly available in market. The Department of Health says supply of the vaccine remains stable, adding it has asked suppliers to increase their supplies to meet [growing] market demand. Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, the Secretary for Food and Health, says that Hong Kong communities' capability of preventing measles is quite high so that there is no community outbreak for the time being.
The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Hong Kong (SHPHK) yesterday issued a statement saying that Hong Kong's storage of measles vaccine is limited. According to SHPHK, each of the two big American pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, GlaxoSmithKline plc. and Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), has 50000 doses of measles vaccine in storage. As about how many of these 100000 doses are available to the private medical market, the Department of Health did not reveal yesterday. A5, 26 March 2019
